It holds interests in 9 operating mines with an annual gold-equivalent production of approximately 2.34 million ounces, as well as gold mineral reserves of approximately 48.6 million ounces and mineral resources of approximately 111.8 million ounces. Gold Fields Limited was founded in 1887 and is based in Sandton, South Africa.

On July 11, 2022, South Africa’s Gold Fields announced plans to seek a listing on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) if its proposed takeover of Canada’s Yamana Gold is successful, in a bid to win over investors, some of whom had criticised the deal.

On May 31, 2022, Gold Fields Limited (JSE, NYSE: GFI) and Yamana Gold Inc. (TSX:YRI) (NYSE:AUY) (LSE:AUY), announced that they have entered into a definitive agreement, under which Gold Fields will acquire all of the outstanding common shares of Yamana pursuant to a plan of arrangement.
