Stocks Rallied at Open

U.S. stocks opened higher on Friday in an effort to bounce back from a Thursday selloff. The Dow Industrial Average lately jumped 197.22 points, or 0.78%, to 25, 25,576.67. The S&P 500 rose 23.33 points, or 0.84%, to 2,792.11. The Nasdaq Composite gained 85.24 points, or 1.14%, to 7,570.37.

Oil futures rose Friday, as rising U.S. inventories overshadowed concerns about U.S.-Saudi tensions. November West Texas Intermediate crude for November delivery rose 60 cents, or 0.9%, to $69.25 a barrel. December Brent crude was up 91 cents, or 1.1%, to $80.20 a barrel.

Dell Technologies Inc will ask holders of “tracking stock” tied to its software company VMware Inc to vote on its $21.7 billion cash-and-stock offer to buy it back from them on Dec. 11.

Energy giant Schlumberger Ltd. (SLB) said Friday it had net income of $644 million, or 46 cents a share, in the third quarter, up from $581 million, or 39 cents a share, in the year-earlier period.
