Founded in 1983 and headquartered in Miramar, Florida, Generex Biotechnology Corporation initially specialized in the delivery of large molecule drugs into the oral cavity via a portable aerosol applicator for use in Canada and the United States, notably offering Generex Oral-lyn, an oral insulin product. The company also had a significant focus on oncology, developing AE37, a synthetic peptide vaccine that had completed Phase IIb clinical trials aimed at stimulating a potent and specific immune response against HER-2/neu oncogenes in breast and prostate cancer patients. Beyond therapeutics, Generex was involved in the development, manufacturing, and distribution of rapid point-of-care in-vitro medical diagnostics for a spectrum of infectious diseases, including HIV, tuberculosis, malaria, and hepatitis, providing both test kits and cassettes. Its product portfolio further included Excellagen, a wound-conforming gel. The company's research and development efforts also extended to immunotherapeutic products, additional vaccines, and an extracellular matrix hydrogel solution designed for the treatment of Ulcerative Colitis. In addition, Generex manufactured and sold specialized surgical kits for foot and ankle procedures, containing plates, screws, and tools, and distributed a wide array of surgical supplies, orthopedic implants, artificial joints, biologics, medical devices, and regenerative medicine products. The corporation also acted as the general partner for a Management Services Organization. However, on April 23, 2022, an involuntary petition for Chapter 7 liquidation was filed against Generex Biotechnology Corporation in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Florida, which was subsequently approved by the court on June 6, 2022.
